Charity Toys Box
In the spirit of giving at Christmas, World Vision Indonesia initiated the “Charity Toys Box”. This program was to collect unused toys and dolls for the underprivileged children in Jakarta. Datacraft Indonesia participated in this activity and our Carecraft team allocated a huge box for donations from the employees from 14 Nov to 14 Dec 2007.

Our employees' sincerity and generosity were demonstrated by the 2 huge cartons of toys and dolls contributed. Furthermore, we had volunteers who wanted to give the kids an even more special and warm Christmas by helping to wrap the toys up. The presents were then sent to World Vision for distribution to the children on Christmas eve.

Improving high school learning
By end of 2007, 5 high schools in Indonesia were connected to the digital world of information. In a drive to provide communities with internet access for educational and learning purposes, Datacraft Carecraft Indonesia Team donated 5 units of Cisco Access Points and an engineer on-site to help with the set up.

Currently 2 schools have internet access: the Lab School Kebayoran and Ora ET Labora BSD, where 95% of the students own laptops and are keen to get access to the world of information. This project aims to narrow the digital divide in Indonesia and enable higher knowledge-based learning for these young aspiring students (and teachers) so that in turn, they can have the opportunity to contribute and make an impact to the development of their community and country.

For Ngayami

The Season of Giving
In the season of giving, the Japan team chipped in to purchase Christmas presents for their World Vision sponsored children - Ravi from India and Ngayami from Kenya. They selected popular Japanese cartoon stationeries for the kids, which will give them an opportunity to participate in school and learn.

Without the money for basic supplies like pencils and paper, children in developing countries are often turned away from class because they do not have the educational resources to participate. Although small, these gifts are meaningful and are key in supporting Ravi's and Ngayami's education.

For Ravi

A Family of Affection
Even though Ravi Chandra Mohan (India), Datacraft Japan's sponsored child from World Vision, is miles away from his "family", he is always in their thoughts. For Ravi's 9th birthday on 25 Nov 2007, the Japan team sent him heaps of well-wishes and love - adorable birthday cards with everyone's signatures and a photo of the entire Japan team.

Serious about her task

Fight Against Effects of Catastrophic Oil Spill
At the dawn of 18 Jan 2008, 19 volunteers from Datacraft Korea arrived on Korea's west coast of Taean Peninsula to fight against Korea's worse oil spill. By then, it had been close to 50 days since 11,000 tons of oil spilled from a tanker. Experts estimated that the cleaning process will take more than 3 months to complete and at least 10 years for the ecosystem to return to its original state.

As a safety precaution, the Korean team wore protective gear (long rubber boots and gloves) and was assigned to the rocky side of Guryepo Beach to remove oil sludge plastered on the rocks and caves. Although most of the rocks were cleaned by previous volunteers, the caves were still dirty; filled with poisonous, pungent smelly sludge. To make things worst, the oil sludge had seeped beneath the sand and in between rocks, making a tough job even tougher.

Apart from Datacraft Korea volunteers, there were several hundred other volunteers comprised of high schools students and concerned individuals. Despite the hard work and cold weather, our Korean Team was in good spirits.

Authorities concluded than more than 70% of Taean coast region has had its original condition restored due to huge efforts from the volunteers. We are very proud to be part of this green effort in conserving the ecosystem. Special thanks to all the employees who participated in this activity and to Steve Cho, General Manager, and Francis Yip, Regional Director for sponsoring lunch and breakfast.

Stationeries collected

Green Stationary
Datacraft Taiwan team initiated a "recycled stationery" activity for the children at Love Orphanage in Taiwan. The Love Orphanage shelters about 60 children from 5 to 21 years old. When these children started their new semester in Sep 2007, they needed basic writing tools and materials.

Our Taiwan Carecraft team donated stationeries such as sets of coloured crayons, markers and pencil cases. Some even made cards with well wishes for the kids to be sent along with the stationeries.

With all employees participating, Datacraft contributed 60 sets of stationeries which were packed into recycled paper bags for distribution to the kids. Apart from giving back to the community, we also played a part in keeping our environment green.

Happy customers with their cabbages

More Than Just Greens
A typhoon hit Taiwan in autumn and destroyed numerous vegetable farms in central and southern Taiwan. As a result, vegetable prices rose to a record high due to a sudden fall in supply over demand.

As engaged corporate citizens, Datacraft Carecraft team organised a Cabbage Charity Sale to do their bit for the communities and at the same time sold cabbages (one of the popular greens with the locals) to the staff.

Through their personal contact, the Carecraft Committee located a cabbage supplier on Hehuanshan Mountain (height: 3,275m) and purchased 50 cabbages for the charity sale. The cabbages were then sold at a minimum of NT$300 (US$9) each.

All the cabbages were sold and thanks to everyone's generosity, US$1,000 was raised and donated to the Mountain Children's Home (Liu-Kuei Orphanage) in Kaohsiung County. Although most paid above market price for their cabbages, they were happy with their purchases knowing that the money spent will go towards improving the lives of the needy children.
