Datacraft Asia HQ standing up

Datacraft Thailand stood up

Datacraft Asia supported this year's Stand Up and Take Action event
Datacraft Asia took part in the global campaign, Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty, as around 1,500 employees stood up across the region on 17 October 2008. A total of S$5,640 was raised through the sale of wrist bands by the offices in Singapore, in addition to the pledge of S$3 for every employee who stood up. The donation was presented to the organiser, ONE (Singapore), which supports projects across the region that are linked to the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), at the event in Forbidden City at Clark Quay, Singapore. Click here to view the photos from our regional offices.

The human clock was also launched on the same night. The clock served as a reminder to the governments of the world, of the commitment that they had made to the MDG. Bill Padfield, CEO of Datacraft Asia, together with a few celebrities, were on stage to launch the clock. They each held a number that would make up the time left for the MDG to be fulfilled.

The event generated lots of publicity and proceeds from the event were also donated to ONE (Singapore). It was certainly a fun way to contribute to a worthy cause. Click here for media coverage of the event and here for feature of Datacraft Asia on ONE (Singapore) website.

Datacraft China donated books to Huangtuliangzi High School in China
The employees from the various offices of Datacraft China donated more than 160 books to Huangtuliangzi High School, a countryside school in Heibei Province, on 16 October 2008. Shirley Xue, Human Resources Manager and Cindy Yang, Corporate Communications and Branding Manager, from Datacraft China, made a six-hours journey by car to personally deliver the books to the school. In addition, they also brought Datacraft t-shirts and notebooks for the students. In return, they were given a warm welcome and the school's headmaster expressed his gratitude for the donation and financial assistance that they have been receiving since 2006. It was a meaningful trip and Datacraft China would definitely be organising more of such trips in future.

The Huangtuliangzi High School
Located in the Pingquan county of Heibei Province, Huangtuliangzi High School was founded in 2006 after the integration of more than 17 village middle schools. Many of these poor farmers cannot support their children through school and neither does the school receive sufficient funding from the central government. Hence, under the World Vision sponsorship scheme, Datacraft China sponsored 20 children (16 girls and 4 boys), by offering them financial support and a chance at a better future.

The volunteers were given a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the nursing home by Mr Paul Chun, Manager of St. James' Settlement Scenic Resort. The day's programme started with performances by the volunteers, followed by a game session where prizes were given to those who participated or answered the questions correctly. In addition, the elderly residents received a gift consisting of fruit juices and biscuits each. It was a meaningful way to spend the afternoon and a good way to show our care and concern for the less unfortunate.

Datacraft held a Charity Car Wash fund-raising event for Melrose Home, Singapore
A Charity Car Wash fund-raising event was held at the Melrose Home, Datacraft Singapore’s adopted charity, in June 2008. 21 volunteers from Datacraft provided manual car wash services at the Melrose Home venue. They washed about 30 cars and raised a total amount of S$1,775 (US$1,300) for the Melrose Home, which exceeded the target of S$1,000. This would not have been possible without the hard work of the volunteers, generous donations from the supporters and those who dropped by to have their cars washed.

Datacraft Singapore celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival at Melrose Children Home
Volunteers from Datacraft Asia and Datacraft Singapore celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival on 11 September 2008, in a creative way – by teaching the children how to make mooncakes! The Master Chef for this activity was Adeline Tee, Customer Service Administrator for Managed Services from Datacraft Singapore, whilst the rest of the volunteers acted as her "assistants". The volunteers had a fun time teaching the children and at the end of the session, they were impressed by the children's creativity. The team with the most creative design was rewarded with a goody bag containing lanterns, candles and biscuits. As part of the celebration, the children were treated to a buffet dinner. With all the fun and joy brought to the children of Melrose Home, it was a memorable way to spend Mid-Autumn Festival, for both the volunteers and children.
